Nobody on Earth knows your body better than you - remember that before taking anyone’s advice, including mine.
yogis
Yoga philosophy, similar to Buddhism, believes that spiritual unawareness creates suffering & binds us to the wheel of samsara (cycle of rebirth).
The philosophical teachings of yoga revolve around the practice of mental discernment, detachment & self-awareness.
Karma is central to the philosophy of yoga. Karma is the glue that attaches us to the wheel of samsara, which perpetuates our suffering and the delusion of Maya (illusion of ignorance). That creates the veil between our ego & our unitive experience of the universe.
These foundational world views can be confusing to Westerners but are helpful to reorientate our minds to be able to see and experience the interconnection of all things.
Trauma Informed
Trauma-sensitive yoga gives space to reconnect with your body and mind in a safe environment. Together, we will create a predictable, safe space which can also help to reduce stress and anxiety in individuals who may not know what to expect.
This can be especially beneficial for those who have experienced trauma or notice their nervous system seems unregulated. Through yoga, we will explore what it feels like to be present in our bodies and our minds.
A place to process nonverbal feelings that transcend language.
A place to experientially cultivate gratitude towards our bodies.
Somatic Movement is a term that’s been used more frequently over the past few years as research suggests humans store memories, experiences & emotions in their bodies, in their cells. It’s not “all in your head”; our bodies sometimes hold more than we’d like.
This is why many people experience somatization - the physical manifestation of anxiety. It’s also why you may find yourself not feeling safe seemingly randomly. Sometimes, our bodies are reminded of things, even when we don’t remember in our conscious awareness.
It’s not about the poses, it’s about YOU! Always check in with yourself –before, during, and after our practice. You’re in control and there are always options. All of my cues are suggestions, never directives. Take what you need and leave the rest. Get curious. Yoga is a time to explore! A place to challenge ourselves, grow and play!
